The octopus is not included in the pattern!
When I first saw that DecoArt had a new line of products called “Media” acrylics, I thought that I would never use them. After all – I associated the term “Media” painting with things like scrap booking or collages – neither of which I have any desire to do. But when I saw a couple of videos which showed what these products were capable of, I was more than excited. I could see all kinds of wonderful applications for using these paints on wood and woodworking projects. It opened up an entire new avenue of design for me.
This is my first project using this line of paints. I decided do create a fun set of gear ornaments which I feel will have many uses for you in your crafting and decorating. While the ornaments will look beautiful created in beautiful hardwood, they will also look amazingly realistic when finished with these products to look like faux rust.
With the growing trend in industrial style decorating and the Steampunk genre, I think this will be a great addition to your crafting patterns. The process can be applied to a variety of surfaces such as frames and boxes and is quick, easy and (YES!) foolproof! I hope you enjoy ‘playing’ with this process and come up with some great ideas of your own.
I invite you to visit my YouTube page to see me demonstrate the faux rusting process: https://youtu.be/lCF614BJ-BI
As you can see, the gears also look stunning created in beautiful hardwood. Add some hot-fix nailheads for a realistic and classy look. You are going to love making this project!
