I love the idea of these cute little animal character baskets! A short time ago, I created a Marshmallow Bunny basket and it was very well-received. So much so that I decided to create another cute basket, this time using a bunny, bear and kitty. I wanted the animals to resemble cookies, so I kept the shapes quite simple. I think that this would be a nice project for someone who is a beginner on the scroll saw. When it came to finishing the pattern though, I couldn’t decide whether to make the animals in soft pastel colors so they would be suitable for a baby shower or children’s room, or if I should make them all “Ginger” animals, which would look nice during the holidays or any time of year in a country kitchen. So I decided to do BOTH! Each version is finished with a cute ribbon bow to add some interest and dimension.
If you choose, you can certainly leave your wood in the natural colors and apply a clear finish on your animals. Just use the accent lines on the designated pattern pieces and drill the eyes, nose and heart shaped buttons and finish cutting them on your saw. But I liked the basket painted in pretty, soft colors as well as the fun gingerbread animals. The painting was really easy to do and you can even use the shapes as ornaments or any way you please.
