While similar to our filigree patterns, these “fretwork” ornaments have lines that follow the natural markings of the fish. These would make great gifts for a sport fisherman or just an outdoorsman / nature lover.
You can make these with or without a backer. Without will be a bit delicate so I suggest that you use a thicker wood than you typically use for ornaments if you make them without backers. I suggest 3/16″ to 1/4″. Of course if you make the 2-layer version, 1/8″ wood will be fine.
