This plaque is a great piece that is easy and fun to do. The bird is cut from a single piece of maple, then shaped with a rotary tool such as a Dremel, stained and reassembled. The results is a beautiful, realistic scrub jay. You can also use this pattern or any of our segmentation patterns for intarsia if you wanted: Just use different species of wood for the differently colored parts and finish with a clear varnish. Or you can even use natural colored stains to look like you are using different species of wood for yet another beautiful effect. The cutting in this design is not overly difficult and is a beginner to intermediate level scroll saw and segmentation pattern.
